Joel Cruzado is a senior Learning and Development manager for Starbucks Asia Pacific. Joel is a 20-year-old Starbucks partner (“partner” is the term used for Starbucks employees), opening the Philippine Starbucks in 1997 leading Learning and Development, as well as the Coffee Engagement teams. Joel moved to the Hong Kong regional office in October 2016.

Joel is currently responsible for core training programs’ planning, development, and delivery approaches to the 16 markets (over 8000 stores) in Asia Pacific, including China and Japan.

Over time, Joel completed certification to facilitate various leadership development programs for Starbucks, namely:

• Situational Leadership
• Assessing Performance (Competency Based)
• Fierce Conversations

Prior to joining Starbucks Coffee in 1997, Joel was the operations manager in Transamerica Life Insurance and Annuity Company, based in Los Angeles, where he served 16 years mostly in customer relations, training, and operations.

Joel is an active mentor in the Hong Kong Community Business’ ENGAGE Youth Mentoring Program to coach, mentor and inspire the disadvantaged youth. Joel, enjoys being a “Hong Kong foodie”, while exploring the beauty of Hong Kong. As a Starbucks Coffee Master, he loves connecting over coffee.
